Here are a few Play Tips to get you started:
- Encourage early investigation with rattles and mobiles; continue to develop interest with toys of various textures and colors; move on to different shapes that fit together
- Soft blankets, small plush dolls, and colorful objects with smiley faces encourage a sense of security and happiness; later mirror play helps to establish a sense of self.
- Talk to your baby while playing; use simple toys which infants can suck, then chew and teethe on. Toy telephones, small dolls and toys or objects with sounds that baby can say (e.g., ball, baby, bear, bee) are helpful for early word production; repetition and rhythm are helpful.
- Infants over 2 months are attracted to many colors and patterns; also provide toys with different textures, shapes and sizes; offer simple puzzles and in-out toys; encourage baby's explorations and repetition with result in learning.
